WHAT IS OBSIDIAN? Love the mystery and majesty of volcanoes? Well get this...Obsidian is volcanic glass that was formed because of volcanic explosions! Molten lava from the volcano has the same minerals as granite but it cools quickly after the explosion, and the minerals don't have time to crystalize, and lacks an internal crystalline structure. So technically, it is smooth as glass because it is a type of glass. Although most people visualize obsidian as a black stone, it forms in dozens of colors and variations.
WHY IT'S AWESOME? Hunters, builders, surgeon? Obsidian is your stone. Scalpels, knives and other tools have long been created from obsidian because of it's ability to form strong and thin blades. Obsidian was a prized stone during the times of trade for this important quality. A hunters treasure even, it has been said that obsidian arrowheads are sharp enough to pentetrate a deer's rib cage and pass through the other side, making it a valued tool for hunting.
