WHAT IS BLUE LACE AGATE? With it's soft and gentle appearance, Blue Lace Agate is part of the agate gemstones, also known as “the earth rainbow” stones. Agates are a variation of Chalcedony and quartz minerals, with changing colors from very soft light agate to almost sapphire blue color. Blue lace agate has soft loops and swirl patterning which are caused by the presence of other minerals, but feel like they are made by butterfly wings. Some of these minerals in the inclusions are nickel, manganese, iron and titanium. Blue lace agate dates back 54 million years.
WHY IT'S AWESOME? Agates, or 'Earth Rainbow Stones' date way back to the people of ancient Babylon, Africa, Egypt and Greece, where they were used primary as healing amulets. Blue Lace Agate was named for the beautiful lace-like pattern that occurs naturally. Blue Lace Agate is extremely rare and only found in one mine in Namibia. The color of blue hue depends on the depth from which the stone was mined, the deeper the blue, the deeper the stone came from.
