WHAT IS AGATE? Agate is a type stone formed of quartz and chalcedony that comes in a variety of colors and appearances. Agates are primarily formed within volcanic and metamorphic rocks. Agates tend to form on or within pre-existing rocks, making it hard to date back how old they are.
WHY IT'S AWESOME? This is the stone that 'does the hard job'. Industries around the world have prized agate as it can keep it's hardness, high polish and resists chemical attacks. Agate can be found in chemistry lab tools for example - the mortar and pestals and crush chemicals that is not affected by the chemicals. The stone was given its name by Greek philosopher, Theophrastus, who discovered the stone along the shore of the Dirillo River or 'Achates'.
